Indy City Futbol 2018 Playoff Preview
After a pair of exciting play-in games on Sunday evening, the official Indy City Futbol playoff schedule is set! Time to put away your book of limericks and focus on the fun and sometimes gut-wrenching experience that is the ICF Playoffs. Here is a preview of what to expect for Wednesday's games:
6 p.m. Games
#1 AC Woodruff Place vs. (Play-in Winner) #17 Irvington FC
David vs. Goliath. A Bates-Hendricks cat vs. a pizza. AC Woodruff Place has not lost a game and even though Irvington FC plays with tremendous passion, the team doesn’t stand a chance. We’ll be monitoring when AC Woodruff Place pulls its starters.
Prediction: AC Woodrfuff Place wins 5-1
Fan Graphs - 98% of ICF fans are picking ACWP to win
#8 Broad Ripple City vs. #9 Old North United
Now this is a match to watch! Talk about splitting hairs. .56 points is all of the difference between these two clubs. Both Broad Ripple City and Old North United have proven in the past that they can win championships. We expect a close one. PKs, anyone?
Prediction: Broad Ripple City wins 3-2
Fan Graphs: 54% of ICF fans are picking ONU
#2 Sporting Herron Morton vs. (Play-in Winner) #15 Atletico Cottage Home
This matchup just isn’t fair. Atletico Cottage Home will have at least had a taste of what a win feels like in the playoffs because Sporting Herron Morton’s offense takes no prisoners. Expect goals to come quickly and often in this affair. Let’s hope ACH has a budget for cheer-up beers for their keeper after this one.
Prediction: Sporting Herron Morton wins 6-0
Fan Graphs: 99% of ICF fans are picking SHM
7 p.m. Games
#5 Upper Downtown FC vs. #12 Mass Ave United
On paper, this looks like a slam dunk for Upper Downtown FC. But not so fast, my friend. First of all, where even is Upper Downtown FC? Second of all, who knows? Mass Ave United come from a long line of players who have made upsets—ranging from some as small as upsetting their spouse to winning the county soccer championship back in the day!
Prediction: Mass Ave United wins a stunner 3-1
Fan Graphs: 76% of ICF fans are picking UDFC
#4 Midtown FC vs. #13 Bates-Hendricks FC
Fresh off another successful Bates Fest, the boys and girls in blue look ready to take on the Maroon Typhoon that is Midtown FC. This match was a 1-1 draw just last week. We wonder what tricks Midtown will have up their sleeves? The underdog lovers in all of us would love to keep this upset streak alive, but Midtown’s bonafides tell us that they will prevail. Whatever the case, expect at least one pick-up truck, an American Flag, and fireworks.
Prediction: Midtown FC wins 3-2
Fan Graphs: 100% of ICF fans are picking BHFC
#3 AC Mile Square vs. #14 Old Speedway City
After barely dodging the play-in games, Old Speedway City must be feeling good about making the playoffs (though, every team does). Meanwhile, AC Mile Square has been running roughshod through the league and it really hasn’t been funny. ACMS hasn’t lost since week 2! Week 2! Looking at the history, Old Speedway City played them close a few weeks back, but the key to victory will be keeping the gray team to less than 3 goals. If they score 3 goals, they are 7-0.
Prediction: AC Mile Square wins 3-1
Fan Graphs: 70% of ICF fans are picking ACMS
8 p.m. Games
#7 Real Fletcher Place vs. #10 Meridian-Kessler United
We saw this matchup in week 11, but it wasn’t much of a contest. Real Fletcher Place showed why the good guys wear white. (Why was MKU wearing black anyway? That’s such a Meridian-Kessler thing to do! Honestly. Flaunt your mansions in front of us some more, am I right?) Looking at the last five weeks, both teams seem hot. This can’t be the 4-0 blow out that we saw before.
Prediction: Meridian-Kessler United wins a close one 4-3
Fan Graphs: 55% of ICF fans are picking RFP
Winner of #1 AC Woodruff Place vs. Real West (Prediction AC Woodruff Place) VS. Winner of #8 Broad Ripple City vs. #9 Old North United (Prediction Broad Ripple City)
This is when it really gets good! Having already played a 6 p.m. game, player fitness will be tested in this 8 p.m. showdown. AC Woodruff Place hasn’t lost a game all season, but they’ve never played two games in one day! We saw a preview of this match last week and ACWP pulled out a narrow victory. Despite Broad Ripple City’s resilience, a second game in the same day tips the scales towards AC Woodruff Place.
Prediction: AC Woodruff Place wins 3-2
Fan Graphs: 75% of ICF fans are picking ACWP
Fan Graphs: 100% of ICF fans say that both teams will be physically beat after the game
#6 Garfield AC vs. #11 Mapleton FC
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Mapleton went into last year’s championship game undefeated and was sent packing back to the future. This year they're the 11 seed and have experienced all the ups and downs of the ICF grind. Garfield AC has also seen better days. Anchored by their Manager on defense, the goals have not been flowing as easily as of late. In fact, they haven’t won a game since week 8. When these two met in week 7, it led to a 3-3 draw.
Prediction: Garfield AC finds some goals in their back pocket and wins 3-2
Fan Graphs: 67% of ICF fans are picking Garfield AC
