Meet the Manager: Luke Sanders, Mass Ave Utd

Information distributors. Mediators. Example-setters. Or as we like to think of them, League ambassadors. Indy City Futbol very much appreciates the fine folks who step up as team managers, and so we'd like to highlight as many of them as we can throughout this season.

Years playing Indy City Futbol:

4 years total, 3 as manager

Favorite ICF memory or moment that stands out?

Team memory - sneaking into the playoffs as the last seed and beating a top seed (#1 or #2? Can't remember).

Moment that stands out - biting through my tongue in a playoff game due to an accidental elbow. It hurt, but it was also a good excuse to eat ice cream for three straight meals.

How has ICF enabled you to feel more connected to the city and your community?

I grew up in a place where soccer was the connective tissue of the city. You'd spend every day after school and every weekend afternoon playing soccer. When I moved to Indianapolis I thought it was different...but maybe the real difference is that you just have to look a little harder. My favorite example of this - going to a new dentist and discovering we had played against each other in ICF the previous season.

What do you most look forward to this season?

I fall asleep thinking about 8v8 formations.

Secret Weapon?

Playing really badly in the regular season and saving all our momentum for playoffs.

Which team do you most look forward to handing an L?

We strive to be the most zen team. We first must defeat our inner demons and achieve peace. Once that's achieved, we will crush Sporting Herron Morton.

Why will your team raise the trophy this year?

I don't know if it will be us, but we're going to have the most fun.

Any team rituals?

Drinking out of Barry's growler before games. He says it's filled with water....
