Meet the Manager: Matt Lancaster, FC Fountain Square

Information distributors. Mediators. Example-setters. Or as we like to think of them, League ambassadors. Indy City Futbol very much appreciates the fine folks who step up as team managers, and so we'd like to highlight as many of them as we can throughout this season.

Matt Lancaster, FC Fountain Square

Years playing Indy City Futbol:

5! It surprises me how long it has been now that I think about it….

Favorite ICF memory or moment that stands out?

Not a specific moment, but I love the friendly rivalry that has developed between Bates-Hendricks and Fountain Square. It really shows how that sense of community influences the league. And don’t tell Bates, but they are some of the most fun people to play against!

How has ICF made you feel more connected to the city/your community?

The number one way ICF makes me feel more connected is in the relationships it has developed. It has gotten to the point that I literally cannot leave my house and walk around the city without getting a friendly “hello” from an ICF player.

What's your team's secret weapon?

Our secret weapon is definitely Jason Chisham. Between his transit points and volunteer points for helping with the league, he has racked in enough points to keep us competitive for the bottom of the league. After all, we have a policy of not getting points any other way. 🙂

Which professional wrestler do you most identify with?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. At one point professional wrestling was a big part of both of our lives, and we are both trying to put that behind us.

Who is your League rival?

Contractually: Bates Hendricks. But this year Atletico Cottage Home needs to be wary. We are eyeing their coveted position of “not dead last".

Why will your team raise the trophy this year?

AMBITION!!

Any team rituals?

Injuries?... Post-game-aching-bodies?.... Being confused by the World Wide Web?.... Bingo Night?

What is your team's theme song?

An out-of-tune choral arrangement of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”.

If you were a salad, what kind of dressing would you want?

Poppy seed! I love poppy seed dressing so much I am worried I am developing a minor opioid addiction…

Any last misc. comments/memories/ramblings/grievances?

Nope! Your questions hit all the right marks. 🙂
